Fitur Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot)

Mark Shuttleworth mengumumkan sistem operasi Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) pada tanggal 7 Maret 2011. Ubuntu 11.10 akan dirilis pada tanggal 13 Oktober 2011 dan akan menjadi rilis kelima belas dari sistem operasi Ubuntu.


Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop features:

· Linux kernel 2.6.40;
· GNOME 3;
· GTK 3;
· LightDM as default login manager;
· X.org 1.10;
· Unity improvements and bug fixing;
· Unity usability, accessibility, automated and stress testing;
· Mozilla Thunderbird as the default mail client (Alpha 3);
· Utilities for building localized CD’s;
· FeatureFreeze was moved after Alpha 3;
· Backports package selection was integrated into the UI;
· Improvements to Software Center’s Reviews and Ratings functions;
· Improved multiarch;
· Python will be updated to version 2.7 and 3.2;
· New artwork!

· OpenStack will be used for Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud;

  1. Ubuntu is the ancient African word meaning ‘humanity to others’ and also means ‘I am what I am because of who we all here’
  2. Ubuntu is an operating system based on Debian distribution.
  3. Ubuntu is currently funded by Canonical Ltd. and Canonical Ltd. is founded by Mark Shuttleworth.
  4. Ubuntu will always be free of charge, and there is no extra fee for the “enterprise edition”.
  5. You can get the copy of Ubuntu via download it from the website, or you can order it with no cost via Shipit but it takes a few weeks.
  6. You can try Ubuntu first via Live-CD before you sure want to install to your computer.
  7. The first official Ubuntu release was launched in October 20th, 2004 codenamed with ‘Warty Warthog’.
  8. There are two Ubuntu releases per year, using the year and the month of the release as the version number.
  9. Ubuntu releases are given alliterative code names, using an adjective and an animal.

  13. LTS stands for Long Time Supports, it means they are supported (with updates) for 3 years on the desktop and 5 years on the server.
